Government Disburses K300 Million to Boost Capacity of Local NGOs

The government has disbursed K300 million out of K1 billion from the NGO Fund to at least 30 local NGOs across the country to strengthen their capacity and partnerships.

Speaking after the symbolic presentation of the funds in Nsanje, minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Jean Sendeza, said the disbursement of the funds, marked the implementation of the project which government launched last year.

Sendeza said the funds are meant for capacity building so that NGOs are contributing positively to the development of the country.

NGORA board chairperson Innocencia Ottober appealed to the beneficiaries to use the funds for the public benefit.

In his remarks, executive director for Friends of Aids Support Trust Prince Nyakuleha, who his organization is among the two beneficiaries in Nsanje, pledged to use the funds prudently.
